Curiosities — Preliminary Playoffs

World Team Carcassonne Online Championship
2026
(Week 6)

Dear friends of Mr. Curiossonne,

16 teams enter this week at the preliminary playoff stage, and only 8 will continue on to meet with the rest in the quarterfinals. After all the close matches of the group stage that enabled them to get to this point, it would be heartbreaking to fumble now. Let us review back this past week where those who persisted marched on, and those who fumbled went home.

Week in review

This week saw the first time discard of a CCCF tile at table #855599134

Scoring records

If you hadn’t noticed yet, both -Horse (Per) and their opponent Merlin_89 (Pol), won with the highest and lowest scores this week.

Tile Carcanopoly achievements

Poland was the land of monasteries this week as 3 Polish players got all 6 monasteries in their games.

Rookie of the Week

It was hard for us to overlook what mart1nator (Ned) accomplished yet again this week. Not only did they defeat former Carcassonne World Champion dark_passenger84 (Gre) 2-1, they did so in a rather unconventional fashion. The evening might have been much simpler had they not fumbled Game 2 while leading on the scoreboard, holding their final tile in hand with only a few seconds remaining. Unfortunately, they weren't quite quick enough to complete their turn before the clock ticked into the red, allowing their opponent to force a deciding third game. Undeterred, mart1nator went on to win the decider convincingly. Time troubles aside, a rookie holding their own against a multiple-time World Champion—and coming away with victory in two games (or three, ignoring time)—is certainly an achievement worth commemorating.

Team Fun Stuff

Where on earth is… JinaJina?

Fellow Mr. Curiossonne assistant, JinaJina has been playing his WTCOC matches from some of the most exotic locations on earth. Here is the photo he sent to the Curiosities team just before his match vs the Czech Republic. It ended up spurring some Curiosities members to Geoguess his precise location. Any guesses of where he could be?

il re giulioTm IV

Some Italian players informed Mr. Curiossonne that they recently crowned, or rather… recrowned (but how does one recrowned a crown that never left its spot) their Italian champion. Congratulations once again to giulioTm for holding on to the title for the fourth year (!!!) in a row.

Celebrating playoffs

Our friends from Hong Kong informed us that they celebrated their direct qualification into the Round of 16 with none other than…. more Carcassonne, as they met with each other at their FLGS. We even heard the early declaration of victory that Hong Kong might (potentially) take the WTCOC crown this year.

*BREAKING NEWS!!! - The “Raf”-fer strikes again*

We just received news that a new victim of the serial “Raf”fer has been found.

The victim, identified as “bormar” from the Czech Republic, was unfortunately set upon by the perpetrator in the deciding game of their duel versus Belgium, leading to their loss.

Witnesses to the incident were reportedly divided: some were left extremely amused, while others were in sheer disbelief of what had happened.

“It was a horrible day for us, and one that will be remembered by all Czech Carcassonne players. We’re looking forward to the day when that crafty fellow gets a taste of his own medicine,” says team captain posij118.

Authorities urge all remaining players to remain vigilent as they place their tiles, for one never knows when—or where—the crafty one might strike next.

If you, or someone you know, has previously been “Raffed”, please come forward and share your story. Together, we can raise awareness of this growing menace.

Oh the horror!!!

Thank you for reading, sharing & caring,
szigfrid, JinaJina, Mingo, kaika87, posij118  😘
